Anthony Mahajan is hailed for his leadership and more than two decades of crisis-management experience guiding corporate and individual clients through the most significant and high-stakes challenges that can arise, with particular expertise in federal and state government disputes.
Clients large and small turn to Anthony for the perspective and insight he offers as a decorated former federal prosecutor and top executive for the largest healthcare companies in the world. He founded Health Law Alliance to bring that prosecutor-and-executive perspective to healthcare providers facing their most serious legal challenges, and when settlements fail, peers and adversaries alike know him as a relentless trial attorney.
As an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Department of Justice, Anthony served as a federal prosecutor in the District of New Jersey for nearly nine years, where he led the investigation and prosecution of healthcare-related crimes. He tried and supervised cases involving pharmacy fraud, controlled substance diversion, kickbacks, and false claims - building the institutional knowledge that now informs every defense strategy at Health Law Alliance.
For his service, Anthony was honored with the Department of Justice Director's Award - one of the highest recognitions a federal prosecutor can receive.
Following his tenure at DOJ, Anthony served as Chief Compliance Officer and Executive Leadership Team member for UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of Optum and United Healthcare. In that role, he oversaw teams of legal and compliance professionals supporting operations that generated $300 billion in annual revenue. He set compliance policy, ran enterprise-wide investigations, and advised the C-suite on regulatory risk at the scale of the nation's largest health insurer.
As Chief Counsel and Vice President for McKesson Corp., Anthony oversaw independent and chain pharmacy controlled substance monitoring. He understood - from the inside - how distributors interpret DEA guidance, how suspicious-order monitoring systems are designed, and how the largest PBMs, distributors, and payors approach pharmacy audits and termination decisions.
Before founding Health Law Alliance, Anthony chaired the White Collar & Government Investigations practice at a healthcare boutique. He launched Health Law Alliance to combine the courtroom instincts of a federal prosecutor, the operational fluency of a senior healthcare executive, and the strategic discipline of a chief counsel - all in the service of pharmacies and healthcare providers facing existential threats from regulators, payors, and prosecutors.
Today, he represents pharmacies nationwide in PBM audits, network terminations, DEA and FDA investigations, False Claims Act defense, and healthcare fraud prosecutions. He has personally overseen more than 1,500 pharmacy audits and recovered over $20 million for clients.
Matters Anthony personally leads - drawing on his DOJ, UnitedHealth, and McKesson experience.
